About the Role
Reporting to the Vice President – Vibro-Acoustics the Director of Engineering will lead a team of talented engineers and designers to research, design and produce advanced noise control, vibration isolation and seismic restraint solutions for the commercial HVAC industry. Responsibilities include overseeing the R&D team including a new start of the art sound lab, work closely with operations and product management teams to develop and enhance products to meet customer requirements and working closely with operations delivering BOMs and other production engineering deliverables.
There is a strong emphasis on leveraging digital engineer tools to automate design and production of highly customized solutions from design through production.
Work closely with Engineering directors throughout Swegon globally in addressing common concerns and interests amongst multiple engineering teams. As the Center of Excellence for noise and vibration control, support other engineering teams as required.
Key Responsibilities
Digital Transformation, Engineering & Technical Leadership
- Define and execute a digital strategy to modernize engineering and sales processes.
- Leverage knowledge-based engineering tools and CAD platforms (e.g. Epicor and SolidWorks) in product design BOM integration into Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems
- Consider options for Product Data Management (PDM) tools
- Simulation tools for R&D including CFD, FEA etc.
- Oversee R&D team for simulation, modeling, and experimental validation of product performance leveraging lab, CFD, FEA and other technologies.
- Manage product development team to deliver noise, vibration control and seismic solutions following a gated process. Work closely with operations in DFMA, Kaizen, cost reduction and other operations improvement strategies
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and certifications (e.g., ASHRAE, ASCE, ASTM, Building Codes (CA/US)).
Change Management & Process Transformation
- Lead change management initiatives to ensure smooth adoption of digital tools, and automation solutions across engineering teams.
- Develop training programs, communication plans, and stakeholder engagement strategies to foster a culture of innovation and adaptability.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the impact of change initiatives and continuously refine strategies.
Strategic & Cross-Functional Leadership
- Develop and execute the engineering department’s strategic vision, aligning with the company’s growth objectives and technological advancements.
- Collaborate with Sales, Product Management, IT, and Operations to integrate digital engineering and automation strategies.
- Engage with customers, industry experts, and regulatory bodies to stay ahead of emerging trends.
- Build and mentor a high-performing engineering team, fostering a culture of innovation, digital adoption, and continuous improvement.
- Work closely with other engineering teams throughout Swegon to drive best practices and support their acoustic and vibration isolation needs.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s/Master’s/Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Acoustics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in HVAC, acoustics, noise and vibration control, or related industries.
- Hands on experience with DFMA
- Experience leading organizational change initiatives, including training, adoption strategies, and performance monitoring.
- Experience with digital engineering tools such as ERPs (e.g. Infor, SAP, Oracle), knowledge-based engineering (e.g. Rulestream or Epicor), CAD (e.g. Solidedge or SolidWorks) and Product Data Management (PDM) (e.g. Teamcenter)
- Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills with a track record of cross-functional collaboration.
